Post subject: Problem with Sulit.com.ph domain |
|
|
Updates 7
Sulit.com.ph is now back 100%. The domain has already propagated successfully worldwide.
And with this, I would also like to inform everyone that we had a record traffic for 3 days straight since the issue has been resolved. November 8 until November 10 not only got the highest traffic for a Saturday, Sunday and Monday for Sulit.com.ph but it also recorded the highest rate of increase in traffic as compared to the same days last week.
It just shows that Sulit.com.ph has become more powerful and more effective in terms of exposure.

As of now, I am still receiving e-mails of members not being able to access the website. Although our traffic as of now is already higher than the regular traffic for a Saturday (most probably because most were only able to access it now). I will give it until Monday before everything will be back to normal (i.e. everything can access the website without problems).
Still no official news coming from domains.ph.

Updates 3
Since it is already past 10pm and beyond the normal office hours, I am now making this post as domains.ph didn't give me any official announcement which I asked them for a number of times today. And since they only operate from Monday to Friday, at 9am to 6pm, I won't be expecting anything from them come this weekend.
The only concrete information that I got is from a domains.ph representative who did call me this afternoon to inform me that the domain nameservers are already corrected and my account is already reinstated. He also informed me the following:
1.) There is a security breach at domains.ph which resulted to our domain's nameservers changed and my account deleted from domains.ph
2.) They have already patched the security hole at domains.ph
3.) They were able to track the person who bypassed their security as a Bayantel DSL Subscriber
As a personal note, this incident shows that the domain registries are one critical point of failure for any website. One problem in the registry and the website will not be accessible. And since websites operate 24/7, it should be mandatory that domain registries especially like domains.ph to have 24/7 support available. Imagine Google.com.ph, Yahoo.com.ph or Ebay.ph experiencing the same problem on a Friday night. Are we going to expect heads rolling come Monday?
As of now, 40% of the traffic is back while the domain is still propagating. Domains are expected to propagate up to 48 hours.
Again, our apologies to all our members affected with this incident and hoping for your full support and understanding.

Updates 2
Some steps from Sir Eugene that can help access the website successfully:

Updates 1
If you know someone who still cannot access, please provide them this link so that they will be updated regarding this issue:
http://67.228.219.34/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41415
Please be advised that we are still waiting for the domain to propagate successfully worldwide.
We are also still waiting for the official announcement from domains.ph regarding this issue. They did inform us earlier that they already have a lead on what actually happened but they still need to check everything to be sure.
Again, we are very sorry for this incident. Hoping for your full support to Sulit.com.ph.
Thanks

Original post
Please be advised that there is currently a problem with Sulit.com.ph domain.
We are currently trying to resolve the issue with the domain registry of the Philippines as the nameserver of Sulit.com.ph has been changed to sedoparking.com nameservers without us changing it and without our knowledge. Unfortunately, there seems to be no support guys or anyone from domains.ph beyond the regular office hours.
Our account in domains.ph was also surprisingly non-existing and we cannot login to their system.
Sorry for the inconvenience but this is already out of our control and we will try our best to get everything back to normal and get answers from domains.ph on the details regarding why this happened.

None. But as soon as your ISP updates their nameserver, you won't be able to access Sulit.com.ph server and will be redirected to Sedo's server unless we changed the details back pointing to ours.
We cannot change the details if we cannot login to domains.ph. And since we cannot login since our account is already non-existing, we need someone from them to fix the issues but unfortunately, no one is available from their end to fix it.
Again, our apologies.

And we are very interested to know this. Inside job or just an error? I just hope the latter or else domains.ph will have some explaining to do as this is a serious threat to every .ph domain registered (all .ph domains must be under the official domain registry of the Philippines). From my experience with domains.ph for 2 years, they are really doing a good job. And I just really hope this is just an error. Hopefully, they will initiate a thorough investigation of this serious security matter.
As of now, the traffic is already down by more than 60% so it means that majority of would be visitors are already being redirected to another server thinking "what the hell happened to Sulit.com.ph"

What?! I'm sure you know that nameserver do not mutate on its own. I think they need to give you a valid explanation. And not to mention sedoparking.com pa ang pinili - bakit kaya? para i-monetize ang sulit?

I agree with you that this is a serious threat.
