MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives on Sunday cautioned motorists against buying or using car plates with its seal and centennial logo, saying the sale of the plates is not authorized.
House of Representatives Secretary General Marilyn Barua-Yap was referring to the commemorative plates that read "House of Representatives - Quality Years of Legislation."
"The House of Representatives has not authorized the issuance, selling and use of said car plates," Yap said in an article on the House of Representatives Web site.
Yap cited findings of an investigating team the latest car plates even bore the image of Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr.
"As soon as we get the necessary documents and evidences, we will file appropriate charges against the culprits and prevent any repeat of this incident in the future," she said.
Yap said that as early as March 19, she already issued an internal memorandum to all officials, employees and personnel of the House of Representatives to refrain from using the plates.
Also last March 19, she wrote Land Transportation Office head Arturo Lomibao requesting him to look into the matter.
"It has come to our attention that the Land Transportation Office has allowed the manufacture and distribution and distribution of commemorative plates bearing the name and logo of the House of Representatives. May we respectfully inform you that this office never approved nor authorized any request for the production and distribution of such commemorative plates," Yap wrote.
Yap requested the LTO to discontinue the production and distribution of the unauthorized commemorative plates.
She also asked that LTO provide the House with copies of documents that have been transmitted to the LTO office, if any, requesting production, distribution and sale of the same car plates. - GMANews.TV
