About The Artist:
Sir Aga is Ramon Agapay. After earning an MA in Philosophy, he studied painting and was the editor-in-chief of “Vision Magazine”, the official publication of the UST College of Architecture and Fine Arts. He also took lessons in painting from Famous Artists School, Westport, Connecticut, USA.
He was a contract artist of National Bookstore Inc, and was the writer/illustrator of Philippine Literary Classics, which featured the novels of Nick Joaquin, National Artist for Literature. He also did book cover designs and posters.
A full-time professor of humanities, he is the author of “Ethics and the Filipino” and “Logic: The Essentials of Deductive Reasoning”, second edition, National Bookstore Inc. He has also written articles in magazines and newspapers, such as the Philippine Free Press, Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star. He has also appeared on TV as a resource person in programs like the Probe Team.
Mentored by the late Bonifacio Cristobal, one of the Thirteen Moderns, Sir Aga paints in watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and oil. He has won awards in painting and exhibits regularly. He taught art and exhibited with his students at the Community Center, Pearland City, Texas, USA, in September 2005.
His work was included in the “Earth and Art” exhibit sponsored by Tribe Net 25 last March 10, 2009 at SM City North Edsa.
Sir Aga is the founder of Artaralan Gallery & Workshop which gives art lessons for kids. He also gives free art lessons to out of school youth and school children in depressed areas.
He recently gave free art lessons to adults in Marikina City, sponsored by Pan de Americana.
He is a member of Marikina Kulay Art Group, the ABC Hidden Lines, and the Art Association of the Philippines.
