Surveying has to do with the determination of a point on the surface of the earth. It is the art of measuring the horizontal and the vertical distances between objects and points. It is a way in which the directions of lines are known. By surveying, the boundary between properties can be recognized, the extent of a land can be established, elevations and land features can be drawn on plans, lands can be technically subdivided or consolidated, and many many more. Surveying is the profession that is an inch above the ground.
What is the importance of surveying? How can a surveyor help?
Since surveying deals primarily with lands, any person who has something to do with land needs a surveyor. Here are few facts how a surveyor can help. If you are a LAND OWNER, you need a surveyor if you wish to know where your land is or how far your land ends. You need a surveyor if you want to have your land subdivided or consolidated. You may want these for the purpose of selling or donating the whole or a portion of your land or giving it to your heirs, assignees or successors in interest.
Problems concerning lands originate from not having a land surveyed and subdivided in due time. Heirs, assignees, and successors in interest fight over the rights on pieces of un-subdivided lands. Many go to the extent of hurting each other physically and emotionally. This happens when forebears neglected the importance of dividing their lands while still living for the generations to come. If you wish to construct a fence or a perimeter wall along the boundary of your property or any other buildings for that matter, you need the services of professional surveyors. Only professional surveyors can accurately and legally establish boundary lines and corners. Problems on encroachments and property gaps originate from constructing buildings, fences or walls without the help of surveyors.
You may find surveyors helpful, if you assume that your neighbor encroaches on your property who built structures on areas you assumed to be within your land. By surveying, the true location and extent of an object or structure can be known.
