Q: Is it illegal to Jailbreak the iPod Touch or iPhone?
A: Jailbreaking the iPhone/iPod is not illegal. While Apple would like to make you think it is illegal, it is not, and it is impossible to get in any legal trouble for jailbreaking it. You and Apple made an exchange. You gave Apple $$ and they gave you a product. It is officially yours and you can do whatever you want with it.
Q: Will this void the iPod Touch / iPhone warranty?
A: Technically speaking, the warranty is void if you perform any modifications to your device, however, since a full restore through iTunes would erase all tracks of your modifications, Apple would not know whether you have performed any of these jailbreaking methods. In this sense, jailbreaking or modifying your device would not void your warranty as long as you perform a full restore before sending your device back to an Apple store, etc.
Q: What exactly is jailbreaking?
A: Jailbreaking refers to breaking the iPod Touch and iPhone free from the clutches of Apple. In other words, gaining read/write access to the devices in order to install your own programs.

A: If you unlock your iPhone, you can use the services of various GSM based carriers around the world.

A: NO, you can't. The iPhone must be Unlocked first before you can use local telcos SIM Card (Globe, Smart, & Sun) so that you can enjoy the Phone functionality. You can only use it as Multimedia device.
Q: After my iPhone been Jailbreak/Unlock. Can I update/restore it directly to iTunes when the new firmware is release by Apple?
A: Yes, but your iPhone will be LOCKED again and need to be Jailbreak/Unlock every time you update your firmware. Only iPhone from Globe Telecom here in the PHILIPPINES can be updated without the need of jailbreak/unlock with Globe SIM Card inserted during update. If your iPhone is Factory Unlocked (from the country that sell Factory Unlocked iPhone) you can update it at anytime without jailbreak/unlock with any Carrier SIM Card Inserted.
If you try to update/restore your iPhone without the official carrier SIM Card you would see the following in iTunes after update/restore.
