What is Glycolic Acid?

Glycolic acid is perhaps the best-known of a group of chemicals called fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). Obtained from sugar cane, it is considered a natural product. Citric acid from oranges and other citrus fruits also fall under the same classification as glycolic acid.

Who should use Glycolic Acid (AHA) Treatments?

AHA treatments are suggested for those whose skin is showing premature and unwanted signs of ageing. Regular application can improve brown spots, fine lines and dry spots (a.k.a solar keratoses). Glycolic acid may also prove helpful for those prone to acne.

How Does It Work? Glycolic acid works as an exfoliating agent because of its high acidity but easy solubility. AHAs loosen the glue-like substances that hold the surface skin cells to each other, therefore allowing the dead skin to peel off. The skin underneath has a fresher, healthier look with a more even colour and texture.

When used regularly, it may also affect the deeper layers of the skin. Collagen and elastin regenerate making fine lines less obvious.

Another benefit is glycolic acid's capability to draw moisturizers into the newly-exfoliated skin surface.

Directions

After cleansing face, apply by using moistened cotton or with fingertips and pat over entire face. Do not rub. Facial skin is now properly prepared for Glycolic Acid Cream and other day & night creams.

What to expect during use?

Treated skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment. A little peeling may occur over the next few days. It can be disguised with moisturizer or normal make-up.
