There are other brands of derma rollers, but many are designed to be disposable and not gamma sterilised. This is very important for safety, so do not be misled by disposable brands which do not carry the same FDA approval as the Dr. Roller. Our needles are made of high grade surgical steel and will not blunt or bend within a 3 to 6 month period of frequent use.

What is a Derma Roller?

The Dr. Roller Derma Roller is an incredible device which naturally increases the levels of collagen and elastin in your skin. Stretch marks, wrinkles, scars and uneven, pitted skin are all due to a lack of collagen – so by using a dermaroller to replace the collagen you can help your skin renew itself and repair to a cosmetic level. Skin micro-needling(otherwise known as CIT or collagen induction therapy) is an increasingly common cosmetic procedure. How does the Dr. Roller Derma Roller Work?

The principle in micro-needling simply utilises the body's self-healing mechanism. It reacts to the intrusion of micro-needles like it would react to any other skin penetrating object. The intrusion of tiny surgical needles is sensed by the skin nerve receptors as an injury stimulus. But the needles are so fine and thin that tissue damage is unlikely. The skin integrity stays intact. But the “nerve-stimulus”, triggers the cascade of the healing process. Skin cells, in a radius of 1 to 2 mm around the pricking channel, release growth signals to undifferentiated cells. These signals in return stimulate the proliferation of new cells, e.g. fibroblasts to transform into collagen- and elastin fibres. The pricking channels, closes within minutes and no tissue lesion can be detected or repaired. The transformation for wound repair cells is an automatic process. Their final mission is to transform into collagen fibres. They integrate into the existing collagen formation in the upper dermis. This new fibre formation thickens the skin and fills former atrophic scars. When thousands of microscopic small needle-pricks are set, the induced collagen formation becomes confluent and forms a new collagen layer. This body reaction is called neo-collagenesis.

In addition, the inner cells that coat our vessels (endothelial cells), and in particular those of our capillaries, are also stimulated to proliferate. They react to this stimulation by sprouting out new capillaries resulting in more and better blood supply for the skin. This reaction is called neo-angiogenesis.

How long before I see results from my Derma Roller?                                                The rate at which you will get results depends on what condition you are treating and how extensively your skin needs to remodel. This process of skin remodelling can continue for 6 weeks after each Derma Roller treatment, but visibly noticeable changes can be seen within a week!  

Does the skin rolling process hurt? or make you bleed?
There are two methods of Derma Rolling. You may use a numbing cream followed by a vigorous derma roller treatment once a week. Or use slight pressure five times a week. Neither method should draw blood. You may find a temporary reddening of the skin for an hour or so after treatment and it can give a sensation similar to mild sunburn.
