Description

   Braking resistors are used to absorb the back emf produced by a decelerating motor that will otherwise produce an over voltage condition at the inverter's B+ rail. This absorption of back emf is also called dynamic braking. The braking resistor is switched to the B+ rail through a braking transistor.
   A very conservative power rating of the braking resistor is to equal the power of the motor. However it is possible to use a resistor of a lower power rating. This can be done by multiplying motor power with a ratio based on a duty cycle. If too much heat is produced a blower assisted cooling may be used.
   A Dummy Load is a network of resistors. Required resistance and power rating are accomplished through series and parallel connection. Blower assisted cooling can be used if heat generated is too high. Dummy loads are normally used by radio transmitters and audio amplifiers.
   Composite carbon resistors are usually used at radio frequency. Wire wound resistors are used at audio to ultrasonic frequencies.
   Please use the recommended value of your inverter. This can be found in the inverter manual. Transmitters use 50Ω and 75Ω dummy loads. Amplifiers use 8Ω loads.
