rabbit deaths may have several causes. number 1 cause is diarrhea. normal rabbit poop should look like large black peppercorn, hard and odorless.  reasons for diarrhea in rabbits include improper weaning or incomplete weaning. rabbits in petshops are often sold at 1 month or less because they are cuter at that age, to save on feeds, and last but not least, the mothers are bred again to maximize profit so the older brood has to be removed to make ay for the next batch. whatever the reason, you end up getting a rabbit that has not been fully weaned and is more susceptible to disease.  
aside from this, rabbit death could also be caused by heat stroke. also, by ingesting poison in the form of insecticide on plants, which they love to gnaw on.  with the proper care and precautions, rabbits should live up to 8 years or more on a diet of pellets, hay, and occasional veggies and fruits
    so in answer to your question, yes, they are relatively easy to care for, and will get quite tame as to become real house pets.

hi, i used to have my 1st batch of pet rabbits way back 3 years but 1 by 1, damn stray cats were chasing my rabbits and the following day1 1 by 1 gets dead :(
Last July, i got me a couple of rabbits, 1 is gray and the other is caramel color and last august she gave birth to 8 babies ... i'm soooo happy!

hi, thank you for your compliments. and congratulations to your new rabbit family! what breed are your bunnies? maybe you should cage your rabbits when you're not around so the cats can't harass them. specially the babies. i have dwarf rabbits, minirex rabbits, ordinary(cartimar), and soon,(hopefully) holland lops, i'm willing to swap if i can use your rabbit for my breeding purpose.

i bought 1 last year from a petshop...
he was so nice, i let him run around my room, like a house bunny, and he was smart kc when he wanted to pee or poop, he will jump back in hes cage, then kpg tapos na sya hel jump out agen and play around...

i miss that bunny, i had to give him away kc i had my baby...

pero, i would recommnd rabbits as pets, if u treat them well, they are great and smart...

thank you for the update.  sounds like you had a very well trained house rabbit, its a shame you had to give him up. i have actually ordered some lop rabbits. but it will be quitr a while before i would have any for sale.  if ever i have any extra lops, i'll  make sure to let you have the first pick. thank you again
