What is SEFT?

SEFT or Security Electric Fencing Technology has evolved from over 60 years of practical use in worldwide markets. Many countries such as Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and America have adopted this technology for their security needs with much success. In fact, this technology had been commercially introduced in the Philippines a few years ago and has been increasingly popular in protecting the assets of the government as well as the private sector (business and property owners).

Is SEFT safe and effective?

The shock of SEFT is painful so it deters animals as well as people from trespassing. A low impedance electric shock is not cruel or inhumane and does not cause physical injury.

Is SEFT fencing more cost effective than other fencing solutions?

SEFT is more economical than concrete fencing. Considering that the shock of the fence is the greater deterrent and not the brute strength, the need for elaborate bracing is unnecessary. Reduced repair and maintenance also adds to the economical value. Over long periods, electric fence requires far less consumption of time and money to maintain compared to most rigid products.

What is the most common failure of SEFT?

The most common failure of SEFT is poor maintenance. Branches of trees and bushes near the electric fence should be trimmed to avoid false alarms and to reduce energy leaking to the ground. Backup battery should also be changed every 2 to 3 years to ensure smooth operation during power failure.

Where is SEFT applied?

SEFT was previously used only for HAPs but nowadays SEFT has been applicable to CARs.

Why use SEFT?

SEFT is used because it is 3D and CUTE.

3D

• Deterrent – Most people if not all are afraid of getting electric shock. Electric fences would then serve as a powerful psychological deterrent for trespassers.
• Detection – Security Electric fences can detect intrusion on its lines whereas mesh or barbed wires cannot. When someone short-circuits or cuts a wire, an alarm will trigger.
• Delay – Breaching an electric security fence requires time. This would mean that responding agencies are given ample time to respond to the security breach via the early warning system.

CUTE

• Confidence – A reliable security system will work even in difficult locations like remote and unmanned sites. This system is also durable and would work for many years and has proven to be safe and effective.
• User-Friendly – Operating the fence systems is simple and it does not compromise security. Fence monitoring and alarm signals should be easy to understand as well as directing responding agencies to the alarm location.
• Technically Advanced – The electric security fences can be integrated with other security systems such as CCTVs, Access Controls and Intruder Alarms. The system is capable of remote control monitoring and as well as have other direct communication options such as radios, landlines and cellular phones.
• Effective – This system only requires relatively low capital outlay and can monitor long distances. It also has low maintenance costs because it reduces the need for security manpower and has an extended operating life of more than 10 years. In fact, some systems on remote mountain sites are still operational. Electric fences also consume low electricity so it would only involve minimal cost on power consumption. A typical system consumes around 60 watts similar to turning on a small light bulb.

How is SEFT installed?

SEFT is installed in WARFs. Other optional accessories can be installed with SEFT like additional warning signs, fence lights, fault finders, fence alerts, lightning diverter kit, digital voltmeter and SMS alerts.
