Who is Rich Dad Asia? Throughout the world Robert Kiyosaki has ambassadors of Rich Dad in their own region teaching and sharing the Rich Dad Principles. Fortunate for us Philippines in under Rich Dad Asia’s region. Mr. Bellum Tan is the man known as Rich Dad Asia. He’s the CEO of Rich Dad Training (S.E.A.) PTE LTD base in Singapore.   

Bellum first meet Robert Kiyosaki in 1992, 5 years before the bestselling book Rich Dad Poor Dad came out. At that time, Bellum was managing a group of companies involved in turnkey contracting for marine & offshore industries. For him, working 18 hours a day and seven days a week was the norm.

All of this changed when he attended Robert Kiyosaki’s workshop entitled `Creating Wealth’. This marked the total paradigm shift for Bellum.

Immediately after the workshop, he made his first investment. This was in early 1990s when prices of properties in Singapore were going through the roof.  Within 2 – 3 years he was able to build a portfolio consisting of 8 properties worth more than S$ million.

When Robert Kiyosaki went into retirement in 1994, Bellum continued to practice what Mr. Kiyosaki have taught him.

In 1996, Robert Kiyosaki came out from his retirement and conducted a workshop known as `Financial Intelligence'.

While hosting a private dinner with a group of close friends, Mr. Kiyosaki commented that Singaporeans are crazy buying properties. He compared the situation to a bubble where it was bound to burst.

This caught everyone by surprise as Robert Kiyosaki constantly emphasized that building a profile of properties creates wealth.

To the Singaporeans where land is spare, there will always be a demand for more properties and a crash, like what happened in California in 1990s, was unlikely.

Once again, Robert Kiyosaki visited Singapore in November 1996 to introduce his Cashflow 101 Boardgame. He created the board game after realizing that seminars, audio tapes, video materials and books were not enough to increase a person’s financial IQ.

His board game needed a brochure and he was forced to make one. This brochure became his best selling book in the USA. `Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ was meant to be a brochure for the Cashflow 101 Boardgame. Up to this time, ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ remains an all-time phenomenal best seller.

Cashflow 101 was first released in Singapore in a seminar attended by 500 participants. What took place after that was history.

After playing Cashflow 101, Bellum realized that the board game is very similar to what he was doing – investing in real life. From there, he continued to play the game and began teaching others how to play by relating it to the real world of investment.

By playing Cashflow 101, you discover how you manage your daily finances and investments. How you play the game gives you a reflection of your own personal financial literacy.

Bellum continued playing Cashflow 101 with his friends until other groups began playing. Initially, it started as potluck meetings, where like-minded people meet on a weekend to play the game and discuss their investments.

As more and more people wanted to play Cashflow 101, Bellum organized seminars monthly where 50 – 100 people gather in a hotel function hall and play.

The quantum leap took place in 2002. While attending a Kiyosaki Seminar in Goldcoast, Bellum was personally invited by Robert Kiyosaki to join him in Phoenix, Arizona where the RichDad’s office is located.

While in Phoenix talking with the RichDad Organization, Bellum shared how he managed to have so many Cashflow followers in Asia. Aside from that, he also shared his most talked-about `Singapore Strategies’ where they broke the bank and ended up with hundreds of millions in hand.

Bellum played the Cashflow 101 game with the RichDad staff members. He applied his strategies and as a result, he ended up with millions of cash.

Half day was spent on debriefing on what transpired during the game.  It was noted that most of the players were playing from the left side of the Cashflow Quadrant while Bellum was playing from the right side where the business owners and investors are.

The following month, Bellum and his wife, Doreen, were again invited to share their knowledge and strategies to the RichDad Organization.

Robert Kiyosaki suggested to Bellum and Doreen that they should set up an organization to continue teaching the philosophy of RichDad in Asia. Thus, RichDad Training was born. Robert Kiyosaki himself thought of the name of the new organization.

Today, Bellum continues to operate his marine and offshore businesses from the B and I quadrants. This gives both Bellum and Doreen the time to travel monthly to teach the philosophy of Richdad in Asia. They have traveled across Indonesia, India, Australia, Kuwait (UAE), Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam.

RichDad Asia has also initiated Cashflow 101 – the Asian version. Hence, Cashflow 101 has a Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese (traditional pinyin), Japanese and coming up is the Vietnamese version.

Part of RichDad Asia’s mission is to continue teaching people about the real world of investing and this is achieved through facilitating Cashflow 101 workshops.
