"Bayanihan no. 1"

Bayanihan (pronounced [bajɐˈnɪhan]) is a Filipino term taken from the word bayan, referring to a nation, town or community. The whole term bayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective.

The origin of the term bayanihan can be traced from a common tradition in Philippine towns where community members volunteer to help a family move to a new place. The process involves literally carrying the house to its new location. This is done by putting bamboo poles forming a strong frame to lift the stilts from the ground and carrying the whole house with the men positioned at the ends of each pole

You are looking at an original Adrian Morales painting. 36 x 60 inches. This is entitled "Bayanihan no. 1", owing to the fact that this is the first "Bayanihan" themed painting that Morales has ever done.

Most of Adrian Morales' cubism paintings deal with Filipino life, such as flowers and fruit vendors, rice and crop and fish harvest. This is the only painting that has this particular subject. I should know, because I asked him personally to make this one. He actually was hesitant to make it, but figured that there would always be a first time.

He said, upon completion of this painting that he had some "difficulty" doing it, probably because the subject was actually outside of his comfort zone and he had to pause several times and see if it really is an acceptable painting to put his signature on.
