Our opinion on the InFocus X9 Projector
The Infocus X9 features 1800 lumens (one of the brightest home cinema projectors currently available), 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), HDMI version 1.3 for \"deep colour\" reproduction with compatible source equipment and a low low price tag. If you want to make the first step into the world of high definition, put the InFocus X9 on your shopping list!
Having done a side by side comparison of the Infocus X9 and its direct competitor the Optoma HD700X (using the high def version of Casino Royale) as our test dvd we noticed the following between the two models :
Brightness
The X9 is the brighter of the 2 models on paper at 1800 lumens (the HD700X is 1300). In eco mode brightness wise the X9 is on a par with the HD700X but take it out of eco mode and the 500 extra lumens is indeed noticeable.
Zoom range
Like the Optoma HD700X, the zoom range is very limited producing very little flexibilty in where you site the projector. To make a noticeable increase or decrease in image size, like the Optoma requires you to physically move the unit backwards or forwards. However at this price point this for us is acceptable.
Colours & noise
Both units provide natural looking flesh tones but where the InFocus X9 truly excels and has the HD700X well and truly beaten is on the colour graduation. This was visably noticeable in the opening crane scenes on Casino Royale. The HD700X produced a lot of yellow banding around the sun whilst the X9 was faultless. On the same image, noise levels were mid range on the HD700X but again faultless on the X9.
Warranty
The X9 has a 2 year warranty whilst the HD700X has only a year.
So which is better the InFocus X9 or the Optoma HD700X?
As with all projectors image quality is subjective. For us both projectors are a fantastic entry level projector in the world of high definition and we would be more than happy with either model. However if we must choose we would say that for us it would be the X9 for its outstanding colour graduation and the ability to produce images with colours from light to dark and everything inbetween with faultless detail.
