Sister Mauricia Tapang is a member of the congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary. She is also an architect and a painter. She designed several buildings within Intramuros, including the "Arsobispado" (Archbishop's Residence) and numerous schools and chapels for their own congregation and other religious orders as well.
She is my aunt. She has been painting since the 1960's, and she only has one subject, the "Mother and Child" or "Madonna and Child". If you take a closer look at the paintings, you'll note that she uses only one paint color, gold. The art comes from the unique brushwork that creates the subtle lines forming the face of Mary/Mother and the child.
Initially she just gives the paintings as gifts to Religious dignitaries like Cardinals Sin, Vidal and Bishop Villegas. Her paintings now adorn the walls of these bishops as well as prominent doctors in St Lukes and Heart Center. Recently she started selling them to the public at a very affordable price. The proceeds of the sale goes to the religious advocacy of their congregation. I am just helping her reach a wider art-appreciating audience.
You are looking at an original Sister Mauricia Tapang painting. Acrylic on board, 18x13, framed with glass cover.
