SCAM Alert: Bank Deposit Transaction

Results per Party Involved:

(A) Scam artist gets the unit from the legit online seller by pretending that the payment made by the victim is his own payment.

(B) LEGIT ONLINE SELLER receives the payment and delivers the unit to the scam artist without knowing it because the person contacting him/her is the scam artist and not the victim.

(C) Victim is left without his item because his payment, which is deposited to the legit online seller's account, is technically stolen by the scam artist and claim it as his/her own. The victim is not aware that he is talking to the scam artist who pretends to own the bank account of the legit online seller.

Details of the Scam:

(1) Scam artist posts an advertisement. The scam artist posts an advertisement of a product which he does not really have. Included in his ad is the product and his contact number.

(2) Scam artist contacts the legit online seller and pretends to be a real customer. He/she can do this even before he/she posts an advertisement. This is also when the scam artist gets the legit online seller's bank account details.

(3) Scam artist insists on being paid via bank account which he claims as his/hers - in reality, the bank account is owned by the legit online seller. Once there is an unsuspecting victim that falls to his scam, the scam artist sends the bank account details of the legit seller where the victim deposits his payment.

(4) Scam artists contacts the legit online seller that payment has been deposited and asks for the unit to be delivered immediately. Once payment is made by the victim, the scam artist informs the legit online seller that he/she already deposited the payment. He/she then asks the legit online seller to deliver the unit to him/her on the same day.

(5) Unsuspecting legit online seller delivers the item to the scam artist. Since the seller is unaware of the unscrupulous deed of the scam artist, he/she unsuspectingly delivers the item. Note that the seller has no means of knowing where the deposit came from because (1) he has no idea that victim and scam artist have previous communication because victim never contacted legit online seller via the contact number posted in legit seller's website and (2a) transaction details in online banking shows the location of the deposit one day after it is made and (2b) transaction details in ATM machine only shows the amount, not the name nor the location of the depositor.

SCAM Alert: GCash Transaction

It has come to our attention that the name of our company, SaveON Shop and one of our owners, Jedrick G. Gatpayat, have been dragged in a scam incident yet again. This time, it is through GCash.

Buyers, beware of this type of modus operandi. One thing to note regarding GCash is that it is so easy to make an account even if you present fake ID's because the verification process of Globe is just not that stringent enough unlike banks. For a scammer to create an account, all he/she has to do is present 2 ID's. These need not be valid, government-issued ID's since Globe even accepts school ID's. While this serves Globe's purpose of convenient money transfer, this is something exploited by scam artists.

To ALL online buyers, please use proper caution before paying in advance. If possible, only accept Cash on Delivery ("Kaliwaan") as payment and delivery term. That way, you will be assured that your item/s will be delivered to you.

If a meet-up is impractical due to your location, please do your research before paying the seller in advance. Remember that once you send the payment, you only have the seller's word and NOT THE ITEM! While there is nothing wrong to have your items delivered via courier and paying in advance, only do so with LEGIT ONLINE SELLERS - with a good track record. All you have to allot is 10 to 20 minutes of your time before parting with your hard earned money to ensure that you are dealing with a legit seller and not a scam artist.
