Excellence Every Day?
Every day we face many moments of truth, daily choices that present opportunities for excellence performance. Every one of us is capable of delivering excellence every single day in every interaction, if we only choose to do so. We each have opportunities every day to extend excellence to friends, strangers, and customers alike. The answer to the question, “Is excellence achievable every day?” is an emphatic “Yes!” Excellence every day! It is a personal choice. Excellence is not determined from above: Don’t blame God, your boss, or any other external factor for your inability to achieve an inspired performance and deliver exceptional results. We are all capable of delivering excellence, if we just stop believing that it is so difficult.
Making Excellence Personal: Para Kanino Ka Bumabangon?
When we approach our work from the subjective perspective of the impact we make, our performance changes completely. When we are willing to take ownership of not only the task at hand but also the impact it has on others, we are at a completely different level of performance. By noticing the recipient of our work and focusing on delivering to that person (rather than to an abstract process target), we make a difference. By focusing our work efforts on the other person rather than on the process, we can strive to achieve excellence. The reason is quite simple: We can “do” excellence, when we want to do so. And when we see that we can make a real difference, we want to do excellence.
Creating Organizational Excellence: Magaling ang Magaling!
The real power of organizations is their ability to create excellence, to differentiate themselves and, as a result, to build strong customer loyalty, earn repeat business, and charge a premium for their goods and services.
This power (or lack of it) is directly linked to the quality of millions of Daily Choices made by employees. The bottom line is that a company’s overall excellence is equal to the sum of the total excellence seeking Daily Choices delivered by its people. There is no better way to measure the strength of a company than by the quality of the choices its employees make every day. The more excellence delivered, the stronger the customer’s commitment and the greater the amount of business and profits generated. The weaker its employees’ commitment to excellence, the weaker its overall performance. This is a new way to view the power and strength of organizations, and it requires a different way of leading and motivating people to generate Daily Choices for excellence and exceeding customer expectations.
