Presentation and Form

Saluta Reduced Glutathione Powder for injection contains 600mg of sterile and excepient-free Glutathione in reduced form as white lyophilized powder in glass vial. Each vial contains glutathione sodium 646mg equivalent to glutathione 600mg.

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Pharmacodynamic properties

Reduced Glutathione Powder (GSH) is a physiologic tripeptide- a chain of three amino acids- cysteine, glycine and glutamic acid. The tripeptide GSH is one of the most important  endogenous antioxidants. It plays a role ofsulfhydryl (SH) group provider for direct scavenging reactions. In doing so, it acts both as a substrate in the scavenging reaction catalyzed by glutathione peroxidase and as a scavenger of Vitamin E and Vitamin C radicals.

Saluta Glutathione Powder for Injection is indicated as an adjunct treatment for the prevention of cisplatin-induced neurotoxicity and other platinum-based chemotherapeutic agents.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Intravenous use: As an adjunct treatment for cisplatin and its analogues, dissolve Saluta Glutathione Powder for Injection in 100ml of normal saline solution. The intravenous infusion should be completely administered 15 minutes before cisplatin therapy (dosage depends on your physician's prescription)

Intramuscular use: Dissolve Saluta Glutathione Powder for Injection 600mg of sterile, white lyophilized powder with 4ml water for injection (reconstituted solution contains 150mh/ml of glutathione)

Saluta Glutathione Powder for Injection should be given within 3 hours upon dissolution with normal saline to maintain its antioxidant properties.

PRECAUTION

Products for parenteral use should be visually inspected before administration in order to possibly detect the presence of particles or of an abnormal color. Do not use in case of presence or turbidity or precepitates.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

No significant adverse reactions had been documented on the use of parenteral glutathione. However, a rare case of patient with right bundle block branch exhibited symptoms of sinus tachycardia and chest tightness upon infusion of parenteral glutathione. As for patients with cardiac conditions , close monitoring should be advised.

After intramuscular administration, rare instances of skin rash have been reported which have disappeared after discontinuation of treatment.

COMPATIBILITY AND INTERACTIONS

Vitamin K3, Vitamin B12, Calcium Pantothenate,, orotic acid,, antihistamines, sulfanilamide and tetracycline can affect the bioavailability of glutatione.

In the absence of compatibility, glutathione should not be mixed with other products.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to parenteral glutathione

OVERDOSAGE

No cases of over dosage have been reported. If needed, symptomatic treatments may be employed.
