Penagbenga Festival is a month-long annual flower festival occurring in Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines. The term is of Malayo-Polynesian origin, meaning "season of blooming".The festival, held during the month of February, was created as a tribute to the city's flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastation of the 1990 Luzon earthquake. The festival includes floats that are decorated with flowers unlike those used in Pasadena's Rose Parade. The festival also includes street dancing, presented by dancers clad in flower-inspired costumes, that is inspired by the Bendian, an Ibaloidance of celebration that came from the Cordillera region.

GRAND STREET DANCE

The grand street parade competition is a good way to witness the talents of Baguio residents when it comes to art, music, and dance. The participants used colorful costumes. There were butterfly and flower costumes, among others. The presentations were akin to nature. The competitive spirit of the festival can be seen as the participants showcased their talents. The dance competition was divided into categories; namely, elementary, high school, college, and open. The teams used different motifs.

GRAND FLOAT PARADE

The Grand Float Parade is the most anticipated event of the Panagbenga Festival. It is the Philippines' version of the Pasadena Rose Parade, where motorized "floats" or carriages are decorated with fresh flowers. Fairies sat among giant mushrooms and lush forests with every kind of Baguio bloom. Then came everlasting butterflies and carnatio n rabbits. A yellow chrysanthemum beehive with a bee mascot drew rounds of applause.Huge strawberries made from densely packed roses glided by. Anthuriums, all in a row, served as the backdrop for red-winged angels. And at the tail end came a dragon poised for flight, bellowing and hissing amid a bed of multi-colored flowers.These were the example of the sights at the Grand Float Parade that concluded the Panagbenga Festival.
