Solution to Brownouts

The frequent and regular brownouts (in some places three hours per day at different times) these days are a given factor that people should learn to live with. They cannot be explained as due to lack of generating capacity, lack of spare parts, low water levels in dams, or maintenance activity by the electric utility. And it is not for the ordinary citizen to know why.

But the opportunities are there for the small entrepreneur or financier—the fabrication of small brushless generators and wind turbines, water turbines and solar electric generators and solar water heaters to produce free electricity for homes. These can be fabricated as one complete install-and-use unit, as an ordinary home appliance not requiring any technical expertise, similar to plug-and-play concept in computers. These designs are available from the author.

For example, in many countries there are manufacturers of electric fan motors, electric motors and automotive alternators—these items can be modified to function as relatively maintenance-free brushless electric generators or alternators. The existing stator and shaft can be used in the new brushless alternator. The new parts will be the cast aluminum or cast iron frame and the cast and machined iron rotor.

The wind turbine generator can be installed on a rooftop or a small tower as one complete install-and-use unit. The wind turbine design uses either plastic, sheet steel or sheet aluminum blades. The metal blades can be fabricated by an ordinary metal fabricator. The wind turbine can also be mass-produced using plastic blades or metal blades.
