how many years you are engaged in this kind of business?

ans:

more or less 2-3 years.

same question were ask to me by a mushroom producer that is 40 years in business.

and also by a spawn lab mycologist in one of respected university in rizal with a 20 years
in mushroom industry.

she ask me, where did you get your formal education in mycology?

i did not undergo in any seminar or formal education about mushrooms. One of the

respected spawn producer in USA teach me for free via email.

i do know mushrooms since i am 14 years old but growing them is just 3 years ago.

i prepared my facilities in the past 2 years, and now i got most of the big projects since
i have those structures.

Do you use chicken manure in your fruiting bags or substrate?

Ans:

Yes, chicken manure is use as a nitrogen source at 4% by volume.

Organic fertilizer Formulator use chicken manure as their main source of NPK
(Nirogen, Phosporous and Potassium) and other trace minerals like
magnesium and boron. The best ratio I witness in mixing by volume
is 60% chicken manure for the organic fertilizer. It is use by a
respected pesticide manufacturer in Bulacan.

In the case of organic fertilizer, the chicken manure is dried and
mixed evenly with other nutrient sources and composted in a definite
length of days, other formulator uses fast acting decomposer in their
composting. I can say that the mixed substrate is loaded with billions
of bacteria. Some of these bacteria are harmful to our health but
beneficial for the plants. In composting, more bacteria and fungus present
is important to ensure normal decomposing.

Substrate preparation in mushroom culture is different. We formulate nutrients
that is beneficial to the mushroom and not for plants. As i mention above,I use
chicken manure as a source of Nitrogen. Nitrogen is very important in composting.
You need to balance the Nitrogen and Carbon to achieve fast composting in Phase 1
of standard composting process. 2nd Phase is to allow it to heat up and ferment for
few days. Then substrate is steamed to kill most of the bacteria and germinate all
kinds of fungal spores that requires heat to end its dormant stage. After few hour,
the substrate is then pasteurize at a certain heat within 8 to 12 hours to eliminate
the bacteria that can survive the sudden heat.

In other words, there should no reason to fear the salmonella in chicken manure. Salmonella
bacteria are easily killed in just few minutes at certain heat. I can say that processed
fruiting bags are free of harmful bacteria. And one more thing,even salmonella is present in
the substrate, the mushroom itself will not eat it or absorb the bacteria. And lastly, i
recommend to cook the mushrooms before you eat. So, chicken manure is not harmful if properly
treated before using as part of the substrate.

I am knowledgeable that chicken manure is widely use in La Trinidad, Benguet as their fertilizer
for the vegetable crop without any pre-treatment or drying. If you question the use of chicken manure
in mushroom substrate then you have to question first the vegetable producers in Benguet.

I have seen 12 or more Trucks loaded of chicken manure in La Trinidad every time I go there.
Bad smell of ammonia is an evidence of untreated or moist chicken manure.

I am currently evaluating a agaricus variety for Capas-Tarlac and Tuba-Benguet project

Capas-Tarlac Project - an 8000sqm floor area old military building located in Navy Capas, Tarlac. It was initiated by the Mayor of Capas, Antonio "TJ" C. Rodriguez and The Navy Mushroom Producers Cooperative led by Edwin C. Quiambao.  Its target production capacity is  50 tons of mushrooms every month. Fungus Agriculture and Technologies will be the sole supplier of all mushroom related needs.

Tuba-Benguet Project - a 40ha forest land that is planned for agaricus and shiitake production own by Nicklaus D. Lawilao of Baguio City. This project is very private in nature. Target date to operate is Sept 2012.  **The land will not be deforested and the project will be soon discuss with the Tuba Mayor and town council.

Just take note that I do not sell spawn for individual at present. I distribute only with my contract growers and big clients. Go to the nearest spawn producer in your place instead. Since reaching the farmer is my initiative, I will distribute mushroom spawn to individual later.

We are now about to experience RAINY SEASON, what if the FRUITING BAGS encounter frequent rains and typhoons? What are your measures to maintain above-mentioned fruiting bags and can we expect for the continuance of a good harvest? 

Another thing, in case of insect infestation and diseases that may damage the mushroom, 

what do you usually do to eliminate it?

Even heavy rain is not a problem with oysters, our packaging is designed for heavy rains and outdoor setup.

Also, insect infestation can be managed using the right organic pesticides. When I say organic pesticide, this are

herbal vegetable that use by the pesticide formulator which are easily to access from your home.

Fungus are very powerful if they have the right nutrition to absorb. Imagine in the forest, heavy rains fall

without any protection in their habitat as shading but still mushrooms are sprouting from the dead woods.
