THE ISLAND OF TICLIN
At the southern tip of Luzon, in the municipally of Matnog, Sorsogon, there are several beautiful small islands with white sands, sea corrals, vegetation and even with fresh water.
The nearest island and frontally facing the town is called “Ticlin”, presumably named after those elegant dark colored and long legged ground birds that live in thickets and swampy places, resembling the wading gallinules of the raid family, locally called ‘Tikling”. Until now those birds, together with many others, still abound in the island.
Inside the property is a flat area of approximately 10 hectares, which was once a rice field but now looks like a fresh water lake. Iguanas are breeding in this place. Mallards and teals frequent the lake. Large bats find refuge here. If left undisturbed they will certainly stay for good , like those in the Inigo Farm in Davao City, or those in the parks in the States where wild geese and ducks mingle with people unafraid because unharmed. With proper education and discipline this island can be a beautiful sanctuary for the birds, the bats and many others.
As of now there are around 3,500 coconuts. Some old and young narra and variety of other trees are thriving here. Tall bamboos are in many places, providing color to the natural scenery and adding life with soft rustlings and rhythmic swayings.
Almost at the center of the island is a spreading hill with wide and windy promontory that serves as vantage point for viewing the green landscape and the expanse of the blue sea.
White sands dominate the beach. The grains are similar in creamy color with those in Boracay. Sea turtles used to bury their eggs in the sands but illegal and indiscriminate catching reduced frequency to almost zero. It is not impossible for this endangered animal to come again.
Youngsters and families use small bancas to negotiate the four kilometers to the island. They go there to swim in the clear water or picnic and tan and frolic in the white beach. Sea corrals around are tempting attractions for scuba divers.
From Manila it takes 10 hours by car to Legaspi City where the famous perfect-coned Mayon Volcano is located. By plane, however, it takes only 45 minutes. From Legaspi it is two hours by car to Matnog through the well-paved South Super Highway, passing by green mountains and scenic seascapes and then the city of Sorsogon. Thence the hot and cold springs in the town of Irosin at the foot of Bulusan Volcano. The sceneries throughout make the trip one of leisure and relaxation.
Matnog is at the end of the South Super Highway in Luzon. The highway terminal is located here where ferry boats dock and shuttle back and forth Matnog and Samar. From Samar the south super highway continues to the Visayas and up to Mindanao.
The island has a clean title in the name of Asuncion “Tita” Fajardo Sharpe. Although it states 41.6 hectares, actually it measured 46, a little more or less. Tita is a native of Sorsogon, married to Peter Sharpe, a New Zealander. New Zealanders as you know are seafarers at heart. They love to sail in their yachts. Peter is no exception. That was why when they first saw the island they immediately fall in love with it and never relented until the owner agreed to sell. After clearing the gray areas of ownership and tenancy , the title was formally issued. It has no lien nor encumbrances. It is free from any agrarian dispute.
The Sharpes dream of converting the island into a beautiful place for pleasure and R & R. They saw a small God-given paradise in it and plan to spend most of their remaining days in Ticlin.
Peter Sharpe, however, is a commercial pilot by profession. His mother station is Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. As days rolls on, the nature of his job began to manifest its pressure. It requires constant trips back and fort – Manila - Port Moresby – Manila. Because of this demand they were forced recently to acquire a property near Metro Manila so that, by reason of proximity, Peter can better respond to calls and fly to New Guinea without delay. After long thoughts it was their hesitant decision to let go of the property albeit with a truly heavy heart.
The property, therefore, is now open to interested parties. Duly authorized representative Pepe Hubilla III will entertain inquiries. Telephone numbers 911-7580 and 421-0669. Cel #09234548356
