| Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will commence marketing of Mitsubishi Meiki TB Series, new 2-cycle, multipurpose gasoline engines. The TB Series was developed through fully remodeling of existing TL Series that was introduced 13 years ago. The TB Series boasts the lightest weight engine in the class and will help reduce burden and tiredness from working long hours. The TB Series engines also feature greatly improved easy-starting function, in addition to weight reduction. MHI will markets the engines in agricultural machinery field, mainly for brush cutter application, and targets TB Series' sales of 100,000 units per year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In response to aging of agricultural workers, the TB Series was developed with the basic concept of "friendly and easy operation." The new models are available in 3 models - TB20, 20 cc (cubic centimeter) displacement class; TB23, 23 cc class; and TB26, 26 cc class - and six types - each model is available either flange type or clutch case built-in type. All models, with streamlined design emphasizing roundness, achieved "weight reduction" and "easy-starting," as well as easy-to-use operability with various new ideas. Specifically, weight reduction is realized through size-reduction of ignition coil and application of new material for a rotor - approximately 10% lighter than the TL series. Especially, TB26 adopt magnesium alloy for its clutch case to attain further weight reduction. For easy starting, TB Series includes "Miracle Start" mechanism as standard equipment that enables to reduce the power required for engine starting to half. Usability is further enhanced with many features, including one-touch detachment/attachment of air-cleaner cover for easy cleaning or replacement of the element. MHI began production of Mitsubishi Meiki Engines in 1946 originally for its scooters, and the cumulative total production of the engines has recorded 20 million units in March 2005. On the strength of the new engine series introduction, MHI will further strengthen its marketing activities of 2-cycle and 4-cycle, multi-purpose gasoline engines in agricultural machinery and industrial machinery fields.
