Each child has her own dream of what she will be in the future. It starts from and with her family and her community. Their support and encouragement influence the realization of this dream. The significant accomplishments inspire her to pursue this dream. Her love, commitment and dedication for it eventually become her life. As with any dream waiting to be fulfilled, there will be challenges to overcome, difficulties to struggle with, and pains to take and let heal. Thus, the dream which becomes one’s life continues to be a lifetime journey.

The ANA S. EMATA School of Classical Ballet was a dream that came to its fruition. It started with a young girl’s love for the arts and blessed with the gift of dance. It was an aspiration to become the best in what she does and excel in every endeavor of this art form. It was also a mission to impart to other young girls the discipline, perseverance, and the love for work that leads to success. Success defined as being happy with what one has done with the gift she has been given and how she has shared this gift with others.

Ana’s love for ballet started at the age of nine with Miss Amelia Yulo at St. Scholastica’s Academy in Marikina. Four years later, Effie Nanas at SM Cubao and SM North Edsa. The young teacher continued learning with a string of established and respected personas in the field of dance. During her college years at the University Philippines in Diliman, she took up Interior Design and earned her Certificate in Dance under the tutelage of Ester Rimpos, Vella Damian, Douglas Nierras and Corazon Inigo. Her training in the Cultural Center of the Philippines allowed her to be in the wings of Edna Vida, Lydia Gaston, Agnes Locsin, Maniya Barredo, Cecile Sycangco and William Morgan. She had the honor to work with National Artist in Dance Leonor Orosa Goquinco for two years producing choreographies and adaptations of “Festival of the Bells” from Coppelia and “Scherzo” from Midsummer Night’s Dream.

As a consequence of Ana’s untiring efforts to hone her craft and with the privilege to have studied and worked with prominent artists, she opened windows of opportunities to gradually realize her dreams. For four years, she was a member of the UP Filipiniana Dance Troupe that enabled her to travel extensively, joining competitions and Dance festivals, as well as goodwill trips here and abroad. But the actualization of this dream was with the establishment and opening of Ana’s own ballet school in 1995 at the Infant Jesus Academy School in Marikina which moved to Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College after almost two years. Next stop was at Hillside Plaza for another two years, at the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall in Cainta, at the Footworx Fitness Center Studio, an extension at Circle-C in Congressional Avenue in Quezon City which started in summer 2003-2008, a Studio at St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina where she started teaching July 2007 – 2008, before it finally found its home at the 7^th floor of the Marikina Sports Complex. 

The product of Ana’s 30 years of teaching experience has yielded for her and her students successful recitals at the Cultural center of the Philippines, concerts at Concert at the park, performances in the junior and senior Danseries at the Camp Aguinaldo theater, guest performances in several Cultural shows, and participation in the 7th and 8th Asia-Pacific Dance Competition in Singapore in 2005 and 2006 respectively. They garnered seven major awards among competing ballet schools from five Asian countries. In 2009, she has lead her students in Hong Kong to perform in the most prestigious Fil-Western Gala Independence Day celebration of the Philippine Embassy. They are also invited yearly to be part of the Hong Kong Disneyland Parade, and is the only ballet school in the Philippines to stage the event. Her students were also participants of Julian Felipe Performing Arts Competition in the Philippines, where they obtained 9 major awards. There recent performance in Macau resulted in a good review from the Consul General’s office. Ana is an active member of ABAP (Association of Ballet Academies of the Philippines) and ACB (Australian Conservatoire of Ballet).

Despite the numerous accomplishments and marked successes, Ana perseveres to come up with new ways of doing things. She has creatively experimented combining classical music with pop and Filipino music. As a result, her choreographies have taken a different twist as well, by combining classical with hip hop, neo-classical, contemporary, and modern ballet. She has constantly kept her students on their toes to meet the ever evolving nature of dance in her own artistic way.

Ana S. Emata’s School of Classical Ballet started with a young girl’s dream. The dream gradually came to life. It is still unfolding along with the many challenges and opportunities that Ana will take on towards her journey to greater heights.
