this fabric is widely used on international mountaineering packs. this is not the same as the silnylon types which looks like tafetta. 

it has a feel of pack fabric. this fabric is applied with PU coating for efficient water repelency. if you are keen on backpack designs, most new and high end mountaineering backpacks no longer uses the old pvc coated ripstop anymore due to weight and bulk. PU coated fabrics are "in" nowadays because it provides a lighter option to most packs without compromising water repelency (and is less harmful to the environment on its production process).
