For all teachers, professors and schools out there:
Do you find it difficult to calculate the grades of your students?
Are you still using the old manual method of grading?

The task of keeping records of student achievement, a.k.a. grades, is as old as Father Time himself. Most teachers, if not all, consider it tedious work; a mind-numbing task to some. It is more akin to clerical work which doesn't require the knowledge of the lofty ideals of Aristotle nor the key to the discovery of the Theory of Everything. Yet we all agree it is important and necessary work, even though how much we avoid it.
How it is done, you say? First, you write the raw scores in a record book. Next you either take out a calculator or a grading scale table to transmute the score which you will consequently write in that same record book. At times you double-check your work to avoid mistaken scores. Can you imagine giving the "goat" of the class one the highest scores or the valedictorian a failing grade by mistake? After you transmute the scores, you will then compute for the Class Standing and Major Exam components to come up with the Period Grade (Midterm Grade, First Quarter Grade, etc.) Again you double-check to avoid mistakes. This is the old method of grade keeping.

1. What paper size is the output?
It depends on your request. I can configure it to come out as 8.5" x 11" (short bond paper size) so it can be glued to your record book. The sample I gave is of this size. Some of my previous customers requested a 13" x 8.5" output (long bond paper size, landscape).
2. How many files will I send?
I will be making only one template per request. You may re-use this template many times. When you open the template, use the "SAVE AS" command to name a new file (e.g. using your class sections handled as file names).
3. Can I modify the formulas of the template file?
The formulas have been password-encrypted to disable modifications. This is done to ensure the security of your template and your grades.

| Please try out my sample template. It has 5 sheets (or pages, for the unitiated in Excel). Sheet (Page) 1 - the page where you input the names of your students. These names will automatically be placed in the other 4 sheets. Sheet 2 - the Midterm Raw sheet. This is where you input the raw scores of the students in their quizzes, projects, seatworks, recitation, etc. Sheet 3 - the Midterm Transmuted sheet. Here, the raw scores are automatically transmuted. Sheets 4 and 5 - these sheets are for the Final Period Scores (same as the Midterm sheets). message updated September 3, 2008 08:28PM |
