The Miracle Berry Plant produces berries that, when eaten, cause bitter and sour foods (such as lemons and limes) consumed later to taste sweet. The berry, also known as Miracle Fruit, Magic Berry, Miraculous Berry or Flavour Berry, was first documented by explorer Chevalier des Marchais who searched for many different fruits during 1725 excursions to its native West Africa.
The berry contains an active glycoprotien molecule, with some trailing carbohydrate chains, called miraculin. When the fleshly part of the fruit is eaten, this molecule binds to the tongue's taste buds, causing bitter and sour foods to taste sweet. While the exact cause for this change is unknown, one hypothesis is that the effect may caused if miraculin works by distorting the shape of sweetness receptors so that they become responsive to acids, instead of sugar and other sweet things. This effect lasts between thirty minutes and two hours.
Miracle Berry is an all-natural product! No adverse or side effects have been found, making Miracle Berry an ideal and safe natural product to use.

From Internet, asiaone/health:
Tanah Merah, Malaysia: When it surfaced via Thai connection in a village here, everyone was initially skeptical. The plant - Sensypalum Dulcificum - had a reputation of being to cure a host of illnesses, including diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer.
But as time went by, word of its curative powers made the rounds and locals began calling it pokok ajaib or "miracle plant".
The miracle berry has an unusual effect on the tongue. It makes sour or bitter food and drink taste sweet, with sweetness similar to that of artificial sweeteners. If you chew first on the berry and then on a lemon, it would not taste sour at all. It would taste rather something like lemonade.
The lime really tasted sweet. To end the sweet taste, one only needs to chew its leaves.
Mohd Azizi Abdullah 26, who operates the Setiakawan Nursery in Kampung Limau Purut here, said the plant was introduced into Kelantan by Thais and many, including him, had been skeptical of its unique abilities.
Azizi, who swears by the plant's properties, said diabetic from Gua Musang bought several plants and ate the berries while the leaves were pounded into paste and used as salve on the wounds on his foot.
