The windshield curves steeply forward to a low beltline and looking at the side, one would notice slimmer windows but surprisingly, the view from the inside is good making it an easy car to drive around even in tight spaces. The fenders also has subtle bulges to accommodate the GT-A and GT’s 10-spoke class leading 18-inch rims fitted with 215 / 45 profile tires. Rear end styling is equally daunting to drivers who have been overtaken as they will see a high back with ‘puckered brow’ tail lamps. Complementing the new body shape are standard aero parts like front airdam, side skirts, rear skirts, and rear spoiler. Dimension wise, the new Lancer EX has grown to 4570 mm long, 1760 mm wide, and 1490 mm tall. (compared to its predecessor which is 4535mm x 1695mm x 1445mm) Wheelbase was also extended to 2635 mm over the previous 2600mm. | |

| Mitsubishi Motors has also raised the bar inside the all new Lancer EX. When you sit on the Lancer EX GT-A’s sport type seats, you will first notice a 3-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls and magnesium alloy paddle shifters similar to the Outlander. The dashboard is complemented with a carbon-look accent strip which stretches from side to side. All the controls, dials of the auto-climate system, and buttons have been simplified and well located offering an uncluttered personal space. Beyond the steering wheel, two sporty analog gauges flank the multi-information display monitor that displays the odometer, trip meters, outside temperature, engine coolant temperature, fuel level, average fuel economy, kilometer range, maintenance reminder, and a thoughtful rest reminder. | |

| Two types of transmissions are available for the all-new Lancer EX. The GT-A and the MX variants will have the INVECS-III Continuously Variable Transmission with 6-speed Sportronic shift mode plus magnesium alloy paddle shifters. The CVT transmission presents the best of both worlds to drivers who often find themselves in heavy metro traffic and have the occasional urge for spirited driving. For the purist, Mitsubishi is also offering the limited GT variant with a sensational 5-speed manual transmission. With this manual tranny, you will be able to enjoy quick clutch take up, great shift quality, and short throw between gates. | |

| A major leap in the Lancer EX’ safety feature is the inclusion of a driver’s knee airbagfor the GT-A and the GT variants to the standard dual stage front airbags. The GT-A however will have a class-leading seven (7) SRS airbags as it will also be complemented with side and curtain airbags. The front seatbelts also come standard with force limiter and pre-tensioners. Another unique feature of this all-new Lancer EX is the Adaptive Front Lighting System or the AFS which throws a beam of light into the corner of the direction you are turning to. All variants feature High Intensity Discharge main lamps for better driving visibility at night. Accordingly, the GT-A model also features auto headlight and rain sensing wipers. The body frame has been developed using the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) technology to reassure collision safety and survivability for occupants. Top of the line Lancer EX GT-A and GT will get 16-inch ventilated discs up front and 16-inch drum-in-discs at the rear aided by 4-channel ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. | |
| PRESENTING THE NINTH GENERATION LANCER EX'S | |
| "THE KILLER LOOKS" | |
![]() | |
| The Lancer sedan is shedding its entry-level reputation by metamorphosing from a low-priced everyman's car to a bigger and more expensive model. The new car is called the Lancer EX, the ninth generation in a model line that stretches all the way back to 1973 and the original Colt Lancer. It replaces the eighth-generation Lancer GLX (which will still be offered here for at least the next three years because of its competitive pricing) but one would be hard put to find any similarities between the two. The old car was a timorous creature (except in turbocharged Evolution form); the new car has bulked up and looks more confident and masculine. First seen as a concept almost two years ago, the new wedge-shaped Lancer has distinctive looks because of its shark nose' and slim headlamps. The menacing mien is intentional, says its chief designer, because Mitsubishi wanted a radical departure from the 'weary and clichéd sedan. It works! The Lancer EX has handsome, beefy looks. The high shoulders also convey an impression of strength, something the styling of the narrow old car never came close to. But the most interesting aspect of the redesign is the car's enhanced size. The wheelbase is 35 mm longer and overall, the car is a lot wider and taller because Mitsubishi wants to appeal to a wider segment of buyers in more markets around the world. Inside, the Lancer EX feels more spacious, with better elbow room. The old car's 1.6-litre engine has been replaced with a 2.0Liter DOHC MIVEC 16-valve (4B11) Engine. The 2.0 is more interesting! The GT-A and MX has a 6 speed INVECS-III CVT with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. Riding on 18-inch alloy wheels (GTA only), it offers a fairly comfortable and very reassuringly stable ride at high speed. But the biggest impression you will get of the new Lancer EX is probably how refined it has become. The sound insulation has improved, the body is 50 per cent more rigid, and the standard equipment key - less ignition and multifunction steering wheel, for example - is much higher. New style has certainly come with new substance. | |

Lancer has returned, stronger, better. The new Lancer EX is Mitsubishi’s answer to all that is tired and cliché about sports sedans. Featuring a bold design surrounding a heart as agile as it is powerful; Lancer EX’s entrance is anything but tentative. Place your hand on the hood, and you may still hear the echoes of the rally.
The new Lancer EX is an end-to-end re-thinking of the sports sedan concept, even at rest, every sensation it creates is one of motion. An aggressive front face and aerodynamic bodylines make a moving statement, punctuated by the side arm, rear spoilers, and 18-inch wheels. This is one masterpiece that’s not about to sit in a museum all day.
A Moving Performance
