Oil Rig Mechanic (Oil & Gas Drilling)

• Diagnosing, repairing, installing and maintaining drilling rig equipment and parts as they are related to draw works, mud pumps, diesel engines and all other related and major equipment to ensure continued operations at drilling sites.
• Supervising and participating in the mechanical maintenance and repair of all engines and equipment on assigned rig covering diesel engines, air compressors, pumps, draw-works and B.O.P. Services, diagnoses faults, diverts and carries out necessary repairs. Liaising with Maintenance Engineer in planning and scheduling the preventive maintenance program.

• Installing, aligning, assembling or dismantling, cleaning, lubricating, moving, troubleshooting, inspecting, examining, maintaining, adjusting and repairing or replacing defective parts of power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators using hand and power tools, and welding equipment.
• Operating hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
• Operating machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.
• Reading blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Diagnosing and correcting faults on hydraulic & pneumatic systems with an ability to read & understand manufacturer literature, as well as engineering & schematic drawings.
• Operating prim movers and other engines.
• Maintaining and repairing prime movers and other engines.
• Maintaining and repairing two stage and four stage air compressors.
• Maintaining and repairing head exchangers and air dryers.
• Maintaining and repairing all Drilling equipment.
• Maintaining and repairing all cranes and lifting equipment.

• B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• In depth, experience in mechanical maintenance of engines and equipment on onshore or offshore rigs.

• Must have 2 or more years in relevant experience, preferably in an Oil and Gas environment.
• Associate degree in Technology or technical discipline, or 4 years experience in technical position.
  
• Supervisory experience is preferred.
• Oilfield experience an advantage but not required.
• Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests.

• Keeping records of work performed.
• Reading blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

• Ensure that all reporting routines are followed and that all equipment related paperwork are carried out within your area of responsibility, such as maintenance records, updating of service and instruction manuals, instructing procedures, etc.
• Being familiar with all classification society and authorities rules and regulations applicable to your area of responsibility.
• Being safety conscious and using compulsory protective equipment.
• Participating on the emergency response team as necessary.
• Providing technical experience to employees and management.
• Ensuring familiarity with all applicable work and safety procedures, and promoting implementation of same.
• Promptly reporting all accidents, near-miss accidents, non-conformance and safety hazards to your immediate superior.
• Ensuring good housekeeping in your working areas.
• You must deliver exceptional safety and service quality.
• You must have good knowledge of spoken & written English

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Working 12-hour shifts and being on call 24 hours per day while not on duty.
  
• Working in air-conditioned office, outside, workshop, and at offshore or land rig with:
• Frequent exposure to rig noise, caustic mud and chemicals used in drilling operations, movement of machine parts, and using tools with radioactive components.
• Occasional exposure to extreme heat and/ or cold (depending on location assignment), outdoor work, handling of electrical equipment, working with explosive material, and working near a radiation source.
• Traveling to rigs by car, truck, helicopter, and/ or boat and remaining at well-site for completion of job. 

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

• Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds; infrequently lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to infrequently push and pull up to 110 pounds.
• Ability to frequently sit; occasionally stand, walk, handle, finger, use eye-hand coordination, and use foot control; infrequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, feel, use eye/ hand/ foot coordination, and twist upper body.
• Ability to use senses of smell, hearing, and touch.
• Ability to demonstrate near and far acuity and depth perception; ability to define color preferred.

• Ability to read and interpret diagrams/ schematic diagrams, manuals/ operating manuals and write business letters and statistical and technical reports.
• Ability to apply basic arithmetic operations, practical algebra or geometry, fractions, percentages, and ratios; compute ratios, rates, and percentages; and understand angles and their properties.
