when i gave birth to my youngest daughter (got three daughters aged 4 yrs 4mos, 3 yrs 4 mos and 2 yr 3 mos) medyo lumaki gastos namin sa pagaalaga sa kanila. we were spending an average of pesos two thousand (P2,000.00) a week sa diapers and formula alone for them. i used to use branded diapers (EQ dry) sa kanila before and one time, i saw this somewhat obscure store selling diapers and saw that they are selling generic diapers (bago sa akin kasi first time ko nakakita nito). i inquired and learned na napakalaki ng difference price-wise vis-a-vis branded diapers that i was using. so i gave it a try.
although using generic diapers then somehow eased some financial burden of raising my kids, still, ramdam pa din namin ang laki ng gastos (increasing power and phone bills, food and subsistence, etc.). it was at this point na nag isip ako ng pagkakakitaan. i thought na since uso ang "ukay-ukay", why not sell sa labas ng gate namin mga old clothes at gamit namin at ng mga kids ko na hindi na namin ginagamit or napaglakihan na nila. so nanghiram ng lamesa ang hubby ko sa "barangay" namin and nag put-up ako ng "ukay-ukay" sa harap ng gate namin.
at that time naman po, luckily, my husbands best friend paid him a visit sa office nya and while in the middle ng kanilang kwentuhan, naihinga ng hubby ko ang problema namin sa lumalaking gastos lalo na sa diapers ng kids. my hubby's friend told him that he knew of somebody who imports diapers and suggested that we visit the importer at baka pwede kami bumili ng "patingi-tingi" (alam naman natin na pag direct tayo sa source ay mura di po ba?). and thats what we did a few days later.
the importer was very sympathetic to our actuality and told us na pwede kami kumuha ng diapers sa kanya ng "tingi" and encouraged us na magtinda din nito kasi i told him na meron ako ukay-ukay sa labas ng house namin. i also thought that malaki ang potential ng ganitong business because unlike other things like clothes, shoes, etc. na pwede nating i postpone to another day or week or month ang pagbili, sa diapers ay hindi ito pwede pag meron baby sa house natin.
using the pesos one thousand (P1,000.00) na napagbentahan ko sa "ukay-ukay", bumili kami ng apat na pakete ng generic diapers with the view na kung hindi mabenta ay gagamitin na lang ng kids ko.
getting into this business is not as easy as 1, 2 ,3. when i was starting eh tuwang tuwa na po ako pag nakakabenta ako ng five hundred sa isang araw. meron din kasing nagbebenta dito sa amin ng checkered (plastic covered) at branded (EQ, pampers, etc.). i asked myself later on kung bakit maliit yata ang benta ko and i realized na kailangan ko ma educate mga moms dito sa amin about my diapers. what i did was sell a low-end diaper brand (fitti blue) na mas mababa sa checkered (plastic diapers) ang price to get their attention and when i got their attention eh na realize nila na mas mababa na diapers ko, cloth-like pa ito. it was then that my business started to be known dito sa amin by word of mouth. later on, pinakilala ko na sa kanila iba ko pa brands na diapers na medyo middle and high-end. as i've said before, display lang ako paninda sa harap ng bahay namin (i got pictures of it mga momsies) pero later on, ng makilala na nila ako eh ring na lang sila ng doorbell maski na wala na ako display (kakapagod din maglabas ng paninda sa umaga and magpasok nito sa gabi noh and besides wala po kami katulong or yaya ng mga kids ko).
middle 2008, while surfing the net (hanap ng additional pagkakakitaan), i stumbled into a local advertising site. after browsing, i said to myself, "why not venture into internet selling eh mukhang malaki ang potential nito na madagdagan sales ko since medyo monopolized ko na ang diaper sales sa place namin?" and thats what i did!!!
initially, (after placing an advertisement) ay puro inquiries about my diapers and kung pwede ako meet-up or mag deliver (which obviously i cant) ang natataggap ko. but because of the growing demand for deliveries, i told my husband kung kaya nya mag deliver diapers after office hours, sabi ko sa kanya "daddy, dami gusto magpadeliver eh. sayang yung potential sales ko kasi hindi ko ma satisfy yung request nila." he told me naman na "oo nga. kasi because of the busy sched ng mga mommies eh it would be to their advantage na meron diaper deliveries". so, ganun nga ang nanyari. my hubby ang deliver diapers pagka galing nya office pero lumaki ng lumaki ang demand for deliveries especially sa mga working moms na nagpapadeliver sa office nila so ang ginawa ng hubby ko ay maaga sya umu uwi and deliver sya agad bago mag 5:00PM until later on half day na lang sya pumapasok sa office nya (salamat na lang and their family owns the office kaya he is given this privilege after matapos lahat nya assigned work). of late po, paminsan minsan na lang sya report sa work just to check on paperworks and brings home yung mga kailangan nya gawin po.
my dear topic visitors, in a span of one (1) year and a half (18 months to be exact), ang business ko ay napakalaki ng naitulong sa aking pamilya and i'm proud to state here na as of this posting, my diapers reaches to as far south as cagayan de oro city, davao, butuan city, bukidnon, zamboanga, etc. and as far north sa benguet, isabela and la union, baguio, etc. (i got diaper resellers there po). in other words po ay nationwide na po ang network ko ng diapers resellers.
picture this, from an initial capital of less than one thousand pesos (P1,000.00) or practically nothing (kasi benta ko sa ukay-ukay ang ginamit ko pambili diapers), i can safely say malaki ang tulong ng kinikita ko ngayon sa ikinabubuhay ng pamilya ko. and as an added bonus (recognition na din kaya ito??? sana po hihihihi), i and my diapers was featured sa tv show ng abs-cbn na "swak na swak - kumikitang kabuhayan" last january 31, 2009. i was also interviewed "live" sa radio program ni Ms. Amy Perez sa DZMM na "About Me and You" last february 26, 2009, syempre about my diapers business pa rin po. me and my diapers business was also featured in a half page article in "showbiz sosyal" tabsheet (tabloid/broadsheet) in its april 13-19, 2009 issue. this tabsheet is sold nationwide and sa mga pinoy expats worldwide.
i think na its also worth mentioning that among my prominent diaper clients is a very popular tv host and radio broadcaster, the wife of a philippine basketball association (PBA) most valuable player (MVP), one drug store with several branches outside metro-manila, some doctors, OB and pedia from st. lukes medical center and a popular husband and wife doctor from UERMMC, a very prominent doctor based in Cebu and a well known OB-Gyne based in mindanao just to name a few ( the last two also sells diapers).
incidentally, i'm very thankful that my internet site, i think, is one of the advertisement sites with the most number of hits or viewers (or i am just dreaming about this? hihihihihi) and majority of them translates into sales.
