It's basically a personal preferences. What do you want to use it for?
If for Home Video, Photo, Music Editings and etc. (Media stuffs). You're looking at an Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Apple computers may not need an Anti-virus Software, because there's only a small percentage of malware written for Apple. But then again, it doesn't mean that you're not gonna get a virus. But your odds are good. Never the less, there are anti-virus programs available for Apple.
But if you're into Gaming and/or larger selections of Software availability, then a PC Notebook (not a Netbook) is what you're looking for.
Not a Netbook? Because the specs. are too light w/c means it can't handle gaming and other resource intensive programs. But if you just want to surf the net, do e-mails, wordprocessing, spreadsheets (as long as no media presentations are involved), then you could get away with a Netbook. They're cheaper, smaller & very light to carry around. By the way, they don't have CD/DVD player or burner.

Your welcome. It's good to know that at lease it gives people some ideas when considering buying a lappy. Whether that maybe a Mac or a PC.
It's also depends on how you use it, for the device to be on your advantage & stay useful.
