What is PSP?The PlayStation Portable (officially abbreviated PSP) is a handheld game console manufactured and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Development of the console was first announced during E3 2003, and it was unveiled on May 11, 2004 at a Sony press conference before E3 2004. The system was released in Japan on December 12, 2004, in North America on March 24, 2005, and in the PAL region on September 1, 2005.
The PlayStation Portable is the first handheld video game console to use an optical disc format, Universal Media Disc (UMD), as its primary storage media. Other distinguishing features of the console include its large viewing screen, robust multi-media capabilities, and connectivity with the PlayStation 3, other PSPs, and the Internet.
Despite the console's superior computing power and its multimedia capabilities, sales have consistently lagged behind its main competitor, the Nintendo DS. After the release of a remodeled, slimmer, and lighter version of the PlayStation Portable, appropriately titled Slim and Lite, in early September 2007, sales quadrupled in the United Kingdom the following week and increased by nearly 200% in North America for the month of October. The PSP has faced stiff competition from the Nintendo DS, but remains the second most successful handheld console of its generation.

How to modifiy my PSP 3000/PSP 2000(ta-088v3) to custom firmware? - History repeats itself, in 1000 series days, "devhook" is very popular. It enables a PSP to emulate a custom firmware that could play backup games from the memory stick. It requires a specific firmware which is 1.50 because it's the only firmware that could play homebrew applications. Now that's what we're going to do with our "brite" and "88v3" PSP's. Davee has released chickHEN homebrew enabler for all PSP’s. This give users homebrew on any PSP. Via the TIFF exploit this is possible, but you must have firmware 5.03 for this to work. It will not work on 5.50.
Ok, so here's how to do it:
1. Connect your PSP to your computer.
2. Download the 5.03 update
<pm shadow046 for the link>.. If your PSP already has 5.03, then you can proceed to number 6.

10. Disconnect PSP from your computer.
11. Enable ChickHen R2 by going to the PHOTO section of your psp and wait for the ChickHEN R2 to load.
12. Press "X" to open the folder and wait for the thumbnails to load. Your PSP should display a green image and will restart automatically.
13. Go to system information and check if you have 5.03 ChickHEN R2.
14. Go to GAME section and open the CFWEnabler 3.50.
15. Select “Flash and Start” and wait for it to finish.
16. Select “Yes” when promted to reboot into CFW.
17. Go to system settings and check if you have 5.03 M33-6. If everything goes well, then you are now ready to kick some ass!
note: If your PSP freezes when executing the chickHEN, restart your psp and adjust your Time Zone to GMT +01:00 Brussels. Turn off UMD cache and restore your PSP to default settings.
My PSP 2000 ta-088v3/PSP 3000 shuts down after pressing circle when trying to load 5.03 GEN-A, what should I do? 1. Delete h.bin and ChickHenMod folder from your memory stick.
2. Download ChickHen R2
<pm shadow046 for the link> 3. Download Custom Firmware Enabler v3.50
<pm shadow046 for the link> 4. Unzip ChickHen R2 and copy h.bin to the root of your memory stick and the ChickHen folder to ms0:/PICTURE.
5. Unzip Custom Firmware Enabler and copy CFWEnabler folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME folder.
6. Disconnect PSP from your computer.
7. Enable ChickHen R2 by going to the PHOTO section of your psp and wait for the ChickHEN R2 to load.

Can I install custom firmware to my PSP with official 5.50 firmware? Yes, and No. If you have a Slim PSP with TA-088V2 or lower motherboard or a PSP Fat(regardless of motherboard version), yes, you can install custom firmware. How? Well, you have to use a pandora kit/cementerio to be able to install custom firmware to your PSP. If you don't have a pandora kit/cementerio, then there's no way to install a custom firmware to your PSP. You'll have to wait for a downgrader or a homebrew enabler that is compatible with 5.50.
