The Poverty Plague

(This was a school activity (unedited)  of my 9 yrs old child few years ago, I was surprised that an early age he/she was already aware of what is happening in our society.  I think this is worth sharing, maybe some government official may read and hear a call of a child for some changes)

Today almost every Filipino suffers with the poverty disease. What makes me wonder is why poverty had severely affected the Philippines. People can’t buy even a decent meal to even live their lives. They can’t struggle as they were forced to bow to poverty.  But no, even this can be solved.  If there’s a big problem, one can also make it to the answer.  But how can one do that, for there are so many obstacles to pass?

One does all the things, even eating garbage to live if he is poor.  Today, almost all hope are being diminished for them who plead to be released from their hardship they experience everyday.  But does most of the lucky turn to them who are burdened by poverty?

We can do something. We can convince those who rule and manage the country to help those who are neglected. We can also rescue them, like a hero who saves the hostage from the tyrant called “Poverty”.

----> for other kasulits, maybe you can share your call too...

Nice one from your kid ms. post. I am sure he/she will grow up well having had that thinking in that early years.

I also used to be very hopeful for this country many years ago.

I have read Rizal's Noli and Fili in highschool and I remember that I took it very much deep within me so that when college days came I got a 1.25 grade in Rizal class.

I thought that after Edsa 1 - tuloy tuloy na ang transformation.

But then all hopes had turned out false.

Para tayo mga ibong matagal nakulong sa hawla na nakawala na lang bigla and at such

we have lost our sense of bearing of who we really are as a people and what we can achieve by our greatness.

There's a lesson to be drawn from the geese and their flying V-formation:

LESSONS FROM THE GEESE
We have lessons to learn even from the geese........

Lesson 1. When each goose flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird
following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71 percent
more to their flying range than as if each bird flew alone. People who
share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are
going more quickly and more easily because they are traveling on the
strength of one another.

Lesson 2: When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag
and resistance of trying to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation
to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds immediately in front. If
we have as much sense as geese have, we will join in formation and be
willing to accept help when we need it and give help when it is needed.

Lesson 3: When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into formation and
another goose flies at the point position. It pays to take turns doing the
hard tasks and - with people, as with geese - sharing leadership
independently with one another and without resentment.

Lesson 4: Geese in formation work from behind (by honking) to encourage
those up front to keep up their speed. We need to make sure that our
honking from behind is encouraging - not something less helpful - like
screeching!

Lesson 5: When a goose gets sick or wounded or shot down, two geese will drop
out of the formation and follow their members down to help with protection.
If we have as much sense as the geese, we'll stand by one another in
difficult times, just as they do.

Every formation has a lead bird out front who leads and sets the pace for the others.

The first bird has to work the hardest since it flies through undisturbed air. When the lead bird tires, it will move out of the lead position and fall back into one of the lines of the V.

Another bird will rapidly move forward to take the lead position to maintain the V formation. The two birds at the end of the V tire more rapidly and rotate frequently with the rest of the flock. The birds in the middle of the formation get the most benefit.

The lead bird breaks up the wall of air that the flocks flies into and experiences the most air drag or air resistance. The resulting swirling air or eddies caused by the lead bird's movements creates a lift or upwash for the birds behind it and so forth. The tubes of circulating air called wingtip vortices are generated as the wings generate lift. One wingtip vortex trails behind the tip of each wing. Each bird positions itself in a staggered position to the bird in front of it to get the extra lift and reduced air resistance or drag. A bird flying in formation therefore expends less energy than when it is flying solo. Another reason for flying in the V formation is that each bird can observe the position and flight direction of the other birds in the flock to avoid collisions, as well as, to keep the flock together.

Another story about Geese

A flock of wild geese had settled to rest on a pond. One of the flock had been captured by a gardener, who had clipped its wings before releasing it. When the geese started to resume their flight, this one tried frantically, but vainly, to lift itself into the air. The others, observing his struggles, flew about in obvious efforts to encourage him; but it was no use.

Thereupon, the entire flock settled back on the pond and waited, even though the urge to go on was strong within them. For several days they waited until the damaged feathers had grown sufficiently to permit the goose to fly.

Meanwhile, the unethical gardener, having been converted and transformed by the ethical geese

gladly watched them as they finally rose together and all resumed their long flight.

-Albert Schweitzer

Now, imagine if only we could learn from this lesson

our lives would significantly be much better.

^The moral lesson really is hinay-hinay lang sa pag-type. hehe

I feel bad for the gardener though ...watching his dinner fly away and all.

Just an unprecedented advice for post22's kid, i would recommend to feed in more positive thoughts to your son for the meantime. Divert the kid's attention to something else rather than the negatives. It's good that in his age, he has a sense of patriotism but i don't think that would be good for him as a child.  Since your son is already on it, show him different things.  Bring him to a farm to show how abundant the harvest is which would feed hundreds of people.  Just show him the good things first.

Hmmm...On the other thought, kung nakikita ng bata na ganun ang realidad dito sa atin (to the point that sya mismo ang nakarelaize nun)

kahit kasi maglibang sya ng maglibang pero yun thoughts nya ay naka-set na dun

it would only be harder for him/her to divert his/her attention.

I think by far and large, okay na din yun na sa murang edad would have much hope and concern for this country.

Malay din natin na may hope pa naman talaga behind all this chaos.

Sana, kung ano yun hopefullness ng bata ay magamit nya pagdating ng araw to help others and this country.

... I do not feed my kids anything about politics or any negative thing about our government. In fact I was not by his/her side when he/she wrote it. I do not even know that he/she knows or aware of this things.

Thank you.

I agree, before then, I haven't been fed by these ideals by my parents but then as soon as you went out the door and enter a different world - which is the outside world - that's where you get hit. Parents can only guide you - but the rest will still be up to you. emoticon

first and foremost change starts within ourselves.
and before we expect help from others we should help ourselves first.when every filipino does that, everything will follow.

Is this all still possible for the country?

Remember, for once we have been a great nation.

Thank you for your concern po.

To avoid poverty we have to start first within ourselves.  Be a responsible parent to educate our children not to be a burden of society . Irresponsible parenthood is the main factor why poverty rises  Bearing 10 children without a source of income to feed and educate them is more than a mortal sin for me.  Laziness and voting corrupt of government officials also contribute to poverty.  Combination of the two – Laziness and lack of discipline + corrupt government officials = Poverty.
