~~ What can you say guys ? Nabasa ko ito sa isang forum... ~~
Hello. Stefan here, writing you from Multiply HQ in Jakarta, Indonesia.
As most of you are probably aware, Multiply’s mission has evolved over the past year and a half to become the biggest and most beloved ecommerce marketplace in two very exciting markets, Indonesia and the Philippines. As our focus has shifted, we have reviewed all of our operations, and made some decisions that will affect everyone here.
From December 1st, we will unfortunately no longer be able to support Multiply in its current form – notably we will be removing the social networking and content sharing part of Multiply (photos, videos, blogs, social messaging, etc.). We have decided to discontinue providing and hosting these services, as we have concluded that other Internet sites who are committed to social networking services will do a better job serving you than we can.
For our existing users of social networking features, we will be providing easy ways for you to either download your stuff (photos, blogs, content, etc), or migrate it to other online services. We’ll announce the precise details shortly. It will be your choice whether to download, migrate or just let your content lapse (and get deleted).
For our existing ecommerce users (both buyers and sellers) in Indonesia and the Philippines, there will be no action required.
Regarding any existing Multiply Premium subscriptions we will refund any unused balance, and apologize for any inconvenience this will cause. Please contact customer service to request a refund. Note that this is for Multiply Premium, not the ecommerce related Multiply Trust product.
I am aware of how disruptive this news may be, and understand the disappointment that it may cause. Ultimately this was a business decision, critical to our to success moving forward. Instead, we are excited to pursue our own mission to give the 350 million consumers in Indonesia and the Philippines a great way to buy and sell items online. Our singular focus now is for Multiply to retain its status as a vibrant e-commerce destination in Southeast Asia in the years ahead.
I suspect that many of you will not like this news, and am sorry to have to deliver it now. I hope that you will be able to understand the reasons for our decision and thank you for being a part of the Multiply community over the past eight years.
Stef
Then nagpunta ako sa site ny multiply to confirm nga...
Yes, the news is true. (Several people asked in posts to this group. I didn't let any go through as I'd rather have one discussion on this rather than 7. It gets too confusing when you can't remember who said what in which thread.)
Here is the note from the CEO, which means THIS IS THE FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MULTIPLY. (So don't ask if they're going to give a formal announcement because they did.) Here's a copy of the popup that you should get when you sign in to the site now.

Key points to take note of:
1) Shops will stay. Everything else is going. Yes, that means your photos and videos and blogs and recipes and music and reviews. All of it. It's all going.
2) Stop whining. It's not going to change what's happening. And it's just going to make everyone else more miserable than they already feel at this news. I've been here 8 years which means I'm losing quite a lot. I'm sad as all get out. But I know that whining isn't going to change anything. So I'm not going to do it. You shouldn't either.
3) Multiply said they will provide a way for us to download stuff. If you want to get started early, then I recommend using the media locker to download photos and videos. That's probably the fastest and easiest way for most people. (There are always exceptions so don't get your panties in a twist if this isn't the case for you.)
4) You can save your blogs to your hard drive by going up to "file" and then down to "save" or something like that. (If it's different on PC's, could someone please give the directions in the comments?)
5) Google+ is a good social networking alternative. If you need support there, find me: Meg Dunn, and I'll hook you up with some good tutorials. It'll be a bit of a learning curve, but once you use it you'll be thinking, "dang, that's exactly what we were asking for on Multiply. oh, and that is too. but they don't have this other thing. i still miss that from multiply. *sigh*"
6) I said this before and I'll say it again. Don't whine. Please just help everyone depart the ship in a neat and orderly manner, helping to make sure everyone makes it off safely with all of their stuff intact. The more grumbling on this thread, the less help those in need wil be getting. Sometimes in a rotten situation you just have to bear up under it for the sake of all. Lets bear up and help each other jump ship safely and completely. (In other words, be calm and talk the technophobes through what it's going to take to save stuff and be nice about it.)
I'm very sad at this news. But I'm sure I'll see many of you around in other parts of the internet. It's been a good few years here in Multiply-land. I look forward to seeing what the original team go on to next.
Anu sa tingin nio guys totoo ba ito???
